Putting the First Essex’s Economy First
I’ve put my energy behind tax relief, business innovation, workforce transportation, affordable housing, and gotten tangible results for our district.
2023: I helped secure a $840,000 grant for the city of Amesbury to jump start a major economic development project along the Merrimack River. The new public boat ramp and harbormaster facility will also be a landing site for a solar-powered ferry service, connecting Haverhill, Amesbury, and Newburyport. It’s scheduled to begin summer ’27.
2023 We passed a major tax relief bill that returned $1 billion in tax cuts for the citizens of the Commonwealth, including: increasing senior circuit breaker, lowering the estate tax threshold, and cutting capital gains.
2024: We passed a $5 billion housing bond bill to address the housing affordability crisis. An example of tangible benefits for the district, it funded in 2025 the $500,000 grant that Newburyport received for the Brown School development, which will provide 29 deeply affordable housing units for our community elders.
2024: Worked with MEVA, our local transit authority, to establish a bus route from Lawrence to Newburyport. The #11 bus now connects Lawrence, Haverhill, Merrimac, West Newbury, and Newburyport. The route supports workforce transportation for our small businesses and better access throughout the First Essex.
2025: Collaborated with small cannabis businesses in the First Essex to file a series of major reform bills for their industry. H4160, An Act modernizing the commonwealth's cannabis laws, included four of my bills.
H168, An Act requiring the Cannabis Control Commission to regulate intoxicating hemp products
H169, An Act to study supply and demand for cannabis cultivation
H170, An Act addressing public health risks related to cannabis products
H171, An Act to modernize the cannabis regulatory environment
These prioritize sensible regulatory reform, strengthen public health awareness of risks involving cannabis use, and reform the CCC.
